I have been sharing my love of learning across the nation since 2005, working for schools in New Jersey, Los Angeles, and Seattle.
I graduated from the University of Southern California (Fight On!) with a B.A. in Psychology and earned my M.A. in Public Policy and Education Leadership at Rutgers University while participating in Teach For America.
I am certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, have served as a Career Ladder Teacher with Seattle Public Schools, worked as an adviser for Scholastic's weekly readers product, and mentored student teacher interns from City U, Antioch University, and Seattle Pacific University.
I enjoy camping, traveling, reading, running, trying new restaurants, and cheering on the Seahawks with my husband and three children.
I started teaching at John Hay Elementary in 2010 as the Advanced Reading and Enrichment Specialist. Before that I was a fifth grade teacher at Clark Elementary in the Issaquah School District.
I grew up in Northern California (Eureka!) then did my undergraduate work at Oregon State University (Corvallis). After studying acting in England, I completed my theater degree in 1998. Since then, I have worked in and around the professional theater community (Seattle Repertory, Intiman Theater) while performing with my sisters in our band: tart. In 2008 I received my Masters in Teaching from Seattle University. Then in 2012 I passed my National Board Certification for Professional Teachers!
In our fourth grade program we will be writing (stories, essays, opinion pieces), reading (any and all types of books!), learning about Washington State history, traveling on the Oregon Trail, and science (amongst other things… building aquariums and terrariums, building batteries, and so much more). Fourth grade is an amazing year full of learning and adventures!
